Grolsch offers optimism with new craft beer Hope

With the beers Hope, Faith, Love and Happiness, the brewery calls on the Dutch to share positive stories

Optimism among the Dutch is slowly returning. Research into the mood of the Dutch people by brewery Grolsch* shows that 63.8% of the people are hopeful and positive about the future, and 75.3% would grade their life with a 7 or higher. The brewery wants to maintain and strengthen this hopeful and optimistic feeling in the coming months. That is why Grolsch launches a new craft beer, a Spring IPA that carries the name Hope. In addition, with the launch of Hope, Grolsch calls upon the whole of the Netherlands to share hopeful stories with them. In the coming year the brewery will share these stories via social media and coasters on terraces throughout the country, so that together we can get through the home stretch.

Four special beers
The craft beer Hope is part of a four-part series of special craft beers. Hope is followed by Faith, Love and Happiness. As a brewery that has been at the heart of society for more than 400 years, Grolsch knows better than anyone that positivity can take The Netherlands further. By linking their four special craft beers from the annual Grolsch Tasting to the feelings that the whole country is currently going through, that is exactly what Grolsch is going to do. The four themes are based on the leaves of a four-leaf clover, a powerful and recognizable symbol. The second special beer, Faith, will follow in July. The other beers, Love and Happiness, will be launched later this year. The beers are produced in limited editions.

A beer full of ho(o)p
Inspired by the theme Hope, Grolsch master brewer Marc Janssen brewed an IPA: "Grolsch Hope is an IPA to which, in addition to beautiful hop varieties, I added ginger and lime blossom. From the first sip, this beer smells, tastes and feels like spring. It is truly an IPA that will give you Hope again. I personally can't wait to drink this IPA on the patio in the sun."

An example of a hospitality entrepreneur who has always managed to keep hope is Niels Mulder of Café Nielz, in Almelo. "Our driving force? Staying optimistic and looking at what is possible. There will come a day when the catering industry is back to normal and we see people enjoying themselves again on a full terrace. Of course, every month has cost us money. A lot of energy went into the posting of employees. And we saw more opportunities: recently we invested in our terrace and used the time to build an additional changing room and a new canteen for our staff. We are now looking forward to a fantastic summer and face the future with great confidence!"

#Grolschproostophoop
Hope springs eternal, which is why Grolsch wants to collect as many stories as possible. They will then bring them to life by giving them a place on a coaster. In this way, the whole of the Netherlands will soon be able to find inspiring and hopeful stories at the terrace tables, so that they can toast to hope together. To bring these personal stories to life online, Grolsch master brewer Marc Janssen, together with Marcus Polman, will talk to various Dutch people about their special stories. In addition, he invites everyone here to the #Grolschproostophope (Grolsch raises a toast to hope). This session takes place during an Instagram Live event on 7 May, which can be found via Grolsch's Instagram channel.

How do you send in your story?
In the near future, coasters will be placed on various terraces throughout the Netherlands with a QR code to Grolsch's Instagram channel. Through the DM it is possible to send in a hopeful story. The brewer will then share as many stories as possible via social media or coasters on terrace tables throughout the Netherlands.

Sales information
