Since 2022, we have been using our own wastewater to produce gas. A green gas installation on our brewery site is now set to produce one million Nm3 of green gas annually, equal to the gas usage of around 700 households in the Twente region. This green gas, a sustainable alternative to fossil natural gas, is blended into the natural gas grid. With the advent of the heat pipeline - a sustainable partnership with Twence - we were challenged to find another, equally optimal way to use the biogas produced in the wastewater treatment plant. The technology was provided by local bio-energy company HoSt Group, which owns and operates the installation under an Energy as a Service model. We are very proud of this green, regional partnership, working on the ongoing greening of our brewery and the regional gas grid and contributing to nationwide carbon and nitrogen reduction.
