Beer brewer Grolsch publishes 2025 sustainability highlights
17 June 2026In 2025, Royal Grolsch continued to make significant progress in sustainable and responsible business practices. This is reflected in the sustainability highlights for 2025 published today by the brewery. Alongside projects in logistics, water, energy and packaging, Grolsch continued its commitment to community engagement, safety and responsible alcohol consumption.
One of the most notable achievements in 2025 was Grolsch and De Klok Dranken being awarded their third Lean & Green Star. This recognition highlights the structural reduction of CO₂ emissions across the logistics chain. Through initiatives including a new sustainable distribution centre, smarter route planning, intermodal transport and more efficient use of materials and transport resources, both organisations are taking further steps towards more sustainable transport. With this third star, they reaffirm their pioneering role in the Dutch beverage industry: many small improvements can add up to a significant impact.
Steps towards circularity
Water remains an essential focus for the brewery. In 2025, Grolsch achieved water efficiency of 3.67 hl/hl by reducing water consumption by 8%, while the Twentse Golf water community grew to more than 750 members. In addition, the green gas installation on the brewery grounds produced 630,000 Nm³ of green gas, equivalent to the gas consumption of approximately 395 households.
Community engagement and wellbeing
As part of the Tijd voor Elkaar (Time for Each Other) volunteering programme, 127 colleagues rolled up their sleeves, contributing a total of 616 hours of volunteering across 21 projects. A cheque for €13,000 was also presented to Stichting Goal. In addition, the organisation dedicated significant attention to workplace safety, health and wellbeing during its Stop for Safety & Wellbeing Day.
2025 Highlights
In addition to achieving the third Lean & Green Star, further developing the water community and carrying out various community initiatives, Grolsch achieved several other positive results in the field of Sustainable and Responsible Business. Here are a few highlights:
